Before the creation of Once Was Lost, while product lines and business ideas had not been injection formed, founders Bethany, Kyle and family walked in the midst of the beaches daily. As they walked they began to notice there was trash on the beach and pollution hovering on the waters. With their insatiable desire to steward the Earth, they set out, picking up this litter and ridding the beaches of this abomination. But soon they began to notice something beyond the trash... there was treasure to behold. Bethany began using these newfound treasures as artwork to promote awareness for others to keep our beaches clean as well. From these humble creations (and lots of time to think while walking on the beach) the ideas were formed, to not only rescue these once lost treasures, but to rework them into usable and beautiful items to be reloved by others all over again. With dedication to sustainability and stewardship, the repurposing of plastics (which there is an obscene amount of) was the most obvious step. Though a step in the right direction, they recognize that repurposing these plastics is not the ultimate goal. Death Star-like annihilation of new plastic production would be amazing... but realistically we can all do our part in avoiding single use and virgin plastics wherever we can and participate in cleanups to help undo the damage that has been done!
